I want to try recording my bands entire live show or at least set 1 for the first time.

I had no problems recording one song at practice yesterday with all 16 tracks It was awesome to be able to play it all back through the x32 though and have a virtual in ear sound check.

Pretty cool. Thanks for any tips. Severed Fractal Fanatic. I've never had an issue with my win7 laptop and I am recording 32 tracks with my x32 producer using ableton live 9.

Logic writes the buffered audio in to the scratch sub-directory for the project. BBN Fractal Fanatic. I record on a Windows Vista Machine which sucks It truly comes down to personal preference. For the recording audio engineer, this would be the main program they capture audio from their studio and then mix an album with it.

It was a MESS to set up but was really awesome to get recording back then. I look at how easy the X32 is to set up, and it is easy to laugh at what we had to go through only 15 years ago. But, onto the DAW! Here is a list of the main DAW programs that are out there. In a bit, I will explain my main favorites. As you can see, there are several available, and I only listed 22!

This list can honestly go on and on. Once you select your DAW, you need to get your audio interface set up. The audio interface is going to be the main audio input and output of your DAW. The higher quality audio interface you get in this location, the higher quality recordings you are going to produce. All three of these cards use USB as the main connection to your computer, so we need to connect up the USB cable from our computer to the card. This is one area where many people get stuck.

Since there are so many configurations out there, Google will be your best friend in regards to specific driver problems. Lastly, make sure you are up to date on all updates for the firmware of the board as well as software updates for your computer.

Once you have drivers installed and working, then you are set and ready to go with using your interface for recording! This is pretty incredible and will let you multitrack record all of your 32 channels at the same time! I am a live sound engineer WAY more than I am a recording guy, and honestly, that is my preference at this point in my life.

I would rather refer recording and mixing albums out to colleagues who are WAY more gifted in this area than I. I love the raw, untamed, and sometimes uncontrollable aspect of live sound. Having random problems arise and working through them to create a live production moving lots of energy through the air, that is what fuels me. What I love about Tracks Live is that when you open the program, it asks you for the sound interface, then will calculate the maximum amount of channels the interface support.

Tracks Live will then create that many channels and depending on settings can arm and start recording right away. It will route on both the input and output side, with no needed input from me. The beauty of this is how simple it is to get set up and working. It is fast and it always works.

AKA one less thing I have to worry about! Lastly, the other great thing about this program is it is free! Check it out! Thanks again Drew! Is it possible to import a multitrack session from ex. Logic X to the SD card or do you have to start over..? Hi, after recording 32channels on both SD Cards I inserted the sd cards to my pc. How do I get a good overview which. Maybe there is a work around how to get each channel wav files into a pc nice and orderly?

Hello Drew, Congratulations for your very interesting site! I returned the X-live card to order a new one, but the problem is the same … I also reset the console but no change …. An idea? I have seen this statement repeatedly. I can use my Waves plugins on individual channels via Waves Multirack?

Where is the documentation for utilizing X-live card with outboard effects via USB? Have you tried using outboard effects with x-live card or know of anyone who has experimented with outboard effects with waves multirack? I just got the x live card last week and installed it. Is that possible and if so, how do I do it? Love the content. On your 4th video — at the Mark — you played back audio, and it seemed like all the audio came through, even though your faders were down.

My hope was during the playback — all the faders, EQ, compression, etc. On the x32 x-live card? How would I route that?

Is there a practice file to test playback? In hitting a brick wall on setup and I need to test with a known, working file. Great series of videos! Thanks for your work on this! Hello I have a compact x32 I installed the new card and updated both board and wen through the routing but I am not able to record. Please help. Is it possible to use this as a tracks playback on my instrument channels and use live mics on the vocal channels.

Fast forward and rewind on the X-live. I assigned an encoder to SD Recorder to mark position. When I pause I can now rotate the knob forward and back. Drew do you have a process on how to record the tracks out to an external DAW at the same time as recording to the X-live card at the same time..

It is amazing for that purpose and works well. I have done this with both sample rates It sound like the volume is recorded to the maximum and the result is only distortion. What am I missing? Can I use you great videos above to install and work with this card? Your email address will not be published. Notify me of follow-up comments by email. Notify me of new posts by email.
